How To Get Started With YouTube Ads
In this tutorial, I’ll explain what you need to know to get started with YouTube ads.
1. Set up a Google Ads account
This is fairly easy if you already have a google account, for Gmail or watching YouTube or for Drive etc, then you kinda already have an Ads account – you just need to activate it.
If you don’t have an existing Google account then you can sign up for Google here.
Once you’re set up and signed in to your Google account, you just head on over to Google Ads at ads.google.com and then follow the simple instructions to link your Google account to the Google Ads platform.
There you’ll basically get to your overview screen, which looks like this:
Although this sounds obvious you’re also going to have to create a YouTube account and link that to your Ads account as well.
Also important to remember, since we want to have data about everything we do, we’re going to use conversion tracking through Google Analytics. I’ll show you how to link them all together next.
Link them all together inside your Google Ads Account
With your Google Ads account set up, now you need to connect it to your YouTube and Google Analytics accounts by clicking the spanner icon called Tools in the menu and then clicking Linked Accounts.
It will look like this on the next page – you will see Google Analytics, Youtube, Firebase, Salesforce and others.
For the purposes of this post, ignore the other features and focus only on Analytics and Youtube.
You want to click details on Youtube and link your account, and then repeat the process for Google Analytics so these accounts can communicate with each other.
In the next post, I will look at how to set goals for conversions and how to import them into your Ads account.
